Section B 1280.jpg

“The first Harvard medical postgraduate institution located abroad, the HMSDC provides a crucial link
between Harvard Medical School‘s international faculty, a global network of academic leaders, and the
academic and clinical work being performed at DHCC.”- dhcc.ae.
The bold architectural language used in the design of the Medical Center makes it a statement building.
Adorned with elements of the regions architecture, the form is inspired by the growing development of
Dubai’s architecture with a touch of traditionalism. The entrance is designed in order to be welcoming
and grand at the same time. It aims to invite people in and to create a learning hub for growth in the
medical field. The School also houses conference pools and the large hi-tech Al Maktoum Medical
Library. Great care is given to both architecture & landscape to provide a productive environment for
postgraduate studies.
Arif & Bintoak were the lead consultant and architect of record for the project, and were
responsible for all project phases from the design development stage to the end of the
construction supervision stage.

DUBAI HEALTH CARE CITY BUILDINGS
DUBAI HEALTHCARE CITY - DUBAI, UAE

The first of many projects by A&B at Dubai Healthcare City, this large commercial and health facility
complex houses clinics, offices, and laboratories. The project follows the Mediterranean character of
Dubai Healthcare City, with terraces, sloped roofs, elaborate volumes and bright colors.
The stylistic approach helps it to blend in with the existing healthcare city and present itself as an
opportunity to deliver good healthcare facilities for all. Open terraces integrated with voids, windows
and plenty of natural daylight helps the overall healing process for patients. Overall, the project was
designed to adhere to the requirements and needs of a good state of the art health facility.
Arif & Bintoak were the lead consultant and architect of the project, and were responsible for all project
phases from the concept design stage to the end of the construction supervision stage.

ASTER HOSPITAL
AL QUSAIS - DUBAI, UAE

The Aster Hospital in Al Qusais blurs the boundaries
between research and healthcare delivery while elevating

exterior spaces. The organized nature of the exterior
spaces and landscaping translates to the interior spaces
to create an intentional and natural flow and connection
between the exterior and interior spaces.

designed to be relaxing and inviting for the reception of
the hospital’s visitors and users. The hospital’s design

a building with an intriguing architectural style and language that combines contemporary architecture with classical
design elements.

HOSPITAL AT DHCC
DUBAI HEALTHCARE CITY - DUBAI, UAE

Since the second half of twentieth century up today, the architectural design of hospital buildings has faced great changes. These
changes are coming from the vital role that these types of buildings will play in city context and society as urban features. A&B’s proposal
for the hospital was informed by the architectural heritage of its setting, and seeks to reinterpret the ideas, colors and ornamentation that
have been traditionally used to build homes and villages in the region.
From a healthcare delivery perspective, each of the rooms at this DHCC hospital includes ample space for family involvement, and
expansive windows offering some of the best views of the city. Importantly, the entire building is designed following universal design
principles, and impressively, the vast majority of the rooms in the building were designed following a small number of standardized
room templates. The creation of such an incredible healthcare facility required our design team to look at the project from numerous
perspectives, but we leveraged our health expertise to always keep patient experience at the forefront. The interiors are designed in a
way that humanizes the ‘treatment machine’ character of a hospital environment, while at the same time respecting the technical and
normative constraints of such an establishment. Large windows allow different sections to relate to one another in an interplay of near
and far views.
Arif & Bintoak were the lead consultant and architect of the project, and were responsible for all project phases from the
concept design stage to the end of the construction supervision stage.

HOSPITAL AT DHCC
DUBAI HEALTHCARE CITY - DUBAI, UAE

During the first steps of the design process of the Aster Hospital, the team drew together
specialist design skills with local experience and expertise to deliver the vision of the new
hospital, which centred on creating a modern state-of-the-art healthcare facility located in the
heart of the city, allowing it to service the needs of the region’s populations.
The interior spaces are designed to have a calming atmosphere in order to provide the
hospital’s users with a sense of peace and serenity. A large amount of the facades is dedicated
to having windows in order to maximize the natural sunlight that washes over the interior
spaces of the Aster Hospital. Furthermore, cool shades of color were incorporated into the
interior design of the hospital in order to help in generating a tranquil environment within the
hospital. Finally, the inclusion of lush landscaping in the hospital’s exterior spaces provides the
hospital with a soothing aura.
Arif & Bintoak were the lead consultant and architect of the project, and were responsible
for all project phases from the concept design stage to the end of the construction
supervision stage.
